The Originals by Originals Spring/Summer ‘09 range from adidas has been featured so heavily across the net these past few weeks that it hardly needs any introduction. By now, most have probably seen Japanese design guru Kazuki Kuraishi’s take on the project, fusing together contemporary design with the more technical aspects of sportswear. For example, the casual fitting Business Suit Jacket which has ventilation zippers in the inner sleeves, whilst the M-65 Jacket which has been modernised with polyacryl material and sealed seams for weatherproof wear.
The footwear side of the collection offers reinterpretations of classic adidas kicks, such as the slick looking Vulcanized Boot and the Campus 80s. For fans of all-terrain design, Kazuki adds a touch of high-end Japanese streetwear to the ZXZ series yet doesn’t neglect the functionality aspect of the shoes, as can be seen in the ZXZ Waterproof which employs the use of Gore-Tex uppers.
The tech-influenced design is a stark contrast to Jeremy Scott’s flamboyant pieces and Alaysha Owerka-Moore’s Americana inspired collection. It’s interesting to see each designers representation of classic adidas sportswear, taking it in their own respective directions whilst staying true to the brands sportswear roots. This is just the tip of the iceberg from a long-term project, but in the meantime stayed tuned as we will be taking a closer look at Jeremy Scott and Alaysha Owerka-Moore’s Spring/Summer ‘09 collections.
The adidas Originals by Originals Spring/Summer ‘09 collection by Kazuki will be available at Surrender, Singapore, as well as other selecter stockists worldwide starting from February 2009.

Big Shaun and little Joe, part of the Singaporean sneaker customizing team known as Hypethetic, recently worked on a series of customs for Onitsuka Tiger. The duo worked with local artists Antz and Mr. B to come up with these 1-of-1s; the artists gave their ideas in 2D artwork, and the Hypethetic boys brought them into the third dimension with their unique cut ‘n’ sew techniques. Four were made and two are currently up for auction on the Tiger Translate site, they’re both in men’s US9 size so if you want them head over here.

No doubt a lot of you will remember the various Air Force 1 Lux models that have been released over the years, the combination of quality materials and minimal designs were highly coveted by many a sneakerhead. With this new Court Force High Lux pack, Nike launches the Lux category of premium design. Each year, the company will release a handful of Lux models that are characterized by having basic colour palettes and a higher level of craftmanship.
The Court Forces feature premium nubuck uppers as well as a soft glove-like leather inner-lining that requires no break-in. Apart from the Pinwheel logo on the tongue tag and woven Lux wording on the heel, the only other standout detail is the single sail-coloured lace eyelet - a very subtle mark that breaks up the colour monotony and adds a little pop. Expect to see more classics and new innovations being given the lux treatment in the near future.
The Nike Court Force High Lux is a Tier 0 release and will be available on November 21st, 2008, at Limited Edt Vault, #03-12, The Hereen, Singapore, T +65 6836 9095.

A few predicted that 2008 would be the year of Reebok, yet here we are about to enter 2009 and although the brand has displayed a stronger showing in the past 12 months, so has the competition. With the launch of the 3,000sqf Reebok pop-up store in New York, we can see that the company is still pushing their relevancy in the sportswear industry. The temporary retail space takes it’s colourful design inspiration from 80s New York and also serves as a teaser for next year’s 20th Anniversary celebration of the iconic Pump model.
If you attended the recent Sole What? anniversary bash, you would have seen some of upcoming ‘09 Reebok samples, which ended up being the unexpected hit of the night. Although It’s a sad fact that South East Asia doesn’t get most of the quality releases - for example, the brand going on a Freestyle blitz and we have yet to see any decent ones here - next year seems much more promising than this, so stay tuned for more info about Reebok releases in South East Asia.
The store will introduce a different New York-themed item every week, so if you’re in the NYC do drop by. Reebok pop-up store, 169 Bowery, nr. Kenmare Street, New York.

The Live Fresh street party returned to Haji Lane, Singapore over the weekend where the tenants and regulars came out and played. Free DBS cards (NOT free credit) were handed out, Singapore graffiti artists - the Killer Gerbil and Antz did what they do best, and great bargains during midnight shopping at stores like White Room and Know It Nothing. We have nothing much to complain except for the shortage of free flow of Tiger beer that lasted till 945pm. We look forward for more next year. Enjoy the photos!
